Kathy Nuñez

Internal President

Hi everyone (: my name is Kathy Nuñez and I’m a junior majoring in Global Affairs. I was born in the United States, but my family is originally from El Salvador. I’m an ally to the immigrant community and I’m proud of my family’s heritage. Did you know that 16.7 million people in the country have at least one person in their household with an uncertain status? The number of mixed-status families continues to grow and they all feel the effects of immigration policies..

Maricielo Ampudia Gutierrez

Internal Vice President

Hi team, my name is Maricielo Ampudia Gutierrez. I transfered from NOVA and am now a senior at Mason. My major is in creative writing, with a concentration in poetry. I was born in Peru and am a DREAMer with DACA. As a writer, I’ve realized how much the Latinx community is underrepresented and misrepresented in the media. For example, a 2016 USC study found that out more than 11,000 speaking roles surveyed in film and TV, only 5.8% were Hispanic or Latinx (even though we’re one of the most avid movie goers!)

I’ve been living in Falls Church ever since so the US is my home as well! Did you know that according to a study at the University of California, DACA significantly improved the mental and emotional well-being of undocumented students! Students reported feeling less fear, exclusion and anxiety under DACA.
